My Story
Catherine Shapiro is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in the state of New Jersey and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She earned her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University with a Child and Adolescent Specialization. Catherine provides counseling support for children, adolescents and adults experiencing a range of issues including anxiety, depression, child-parent relationships and difficult life transitions. Catherine employs a person-centered and strengths-based approach and utilizes evidenced based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness skills and psychodynamic interventions to help clients reach their personal goals. She uses play, art and games to connect with children and adolescents to make therapy more accessible. Catherine also counsels parents who are raising kids with anxiety by empowering them with skills and tools to help decrease anxious behaviors in their child and maximize success for all family members. Catherine understands that the therapeutic relationship is vital and works to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients feel heard and supported. EMDR trained and in the process of EMDR certification.
